Recently, our Wildlife Hospital staff released a Short-tailed shearwater off the cliffs at Middlehead. The Shearwater had been brought into the the Taronga Wildlife Hospital by a member of the public after being blown off course during stormy weather over the ocean🌩 Thankfully, the Shearwater made a swift recovery after a few days of rest and an abundance of food at the hospital and was deemed fit for release and continue its migration. The last of Phillip Island's Short-tailed shearwater chicks have taken off on their great migration. Between 29 April and 7 May we saw a great response from local residents and businesses turning off their lights to reduce light pollution that can throw these birds off course. Our rangers rescued and returned 408 birds back to the colony, giving them a second chance at fledging. We would like to thank our partners, businesses and local community for the fantastic support.
